A Few Secrets To Search Engine Traffic Revealed

By Dominic Corelo

Webmasters spend hours everyday obsessing over how to improve organic search traffic. They try all kinds of optimization techniques and sometimes even pay for it (different from SEM). But there's one thing that many webmasters fail to focus on, and that is to try and become a genuine expert on the website's subject matter.

It's very important because the algorithm tries to run parallel to reality. This means that if a person is an authority on a subject, others will pay attention and quote this person's views in conversation. The same thing happens on websites, when other webmasters find a page interesting and link to it in order to share it with their own readership.

Search engines are primed to recognize this kind of activity, and the page gets a high rank in the listings for the keywords concerned. This is the core of what is known as organic links, and it has to be the basis for any and all kinds of SEO campaigns. As the organic links pile up, the domain gets marked as a high value domain for certain keywords.

No doubt this involves a lot of hard work to create fresh content that is original and interesting to readers, not to mention interacting with the community. But it's a lot better than spending the better part of each day trolling for links and link deals. There's also the added advantage of learning something and earning some respect which might possibly help launch a career.

While new content and link-building are the cornerstones of SEO, there are other aspects too. For instance, the hosting makes a big difference. A better host or package may offer improved page loading speeds and possibly be in a better neighborhood, as far as sites valued by the SE's are concerned. There are also other things like Class C IP addresses assigned by the web host, which make a big difference to traffic.

Another area which can result in a sudden spurt in search traffic is the use of scripts, internal linking and professional design templates to improve the user experience. Keep the front-end offered to the visitor simple and use scripts in the back-end to make pages load faster and add functionality. Also, if there's a proper hierarchy for navigating around the website from page to page, it improves page views and makes it easier for both the bots and visitors to find pages.

The bottomline is that it is important to treat the search bots like a human visitor. Make it easy to find and read pages and use the site, keep the content fresh and unique, and acquire links to a page based on how important the page is to visitors. If the site is well-liked and read by the community, the search engine traffic will automatically go up too.
