A Look At Some Of The Best iPad Apps

By Mark Walters

Whether you've already got yourself a new iPad from Apple or are just thinking about it, then it's worth checking out the great range of apps available. We've put together a list of some of the best. First up is NetFlix, which is ideal for people who enjoy streaming television shows or movies to watch no matter where you are. As a plus point, the app is free as long as you already have a NetFlix account. Plus, it works as long as you have internet access.

Games are some of the more popular apps, and we love Plants versus Zombies in particular. It definitely has the seal of approval, having won over 20 game of the year awards. It's also done in high definition and comes with a range of levels. The concept of it is, admittedly, a bit weird, but it's fairly simple. The main purpose is to plant monstrous foliage in order to protect your 'house' from attack and the experience is hugely improved by the iPad's large screen.

Sometimes, you just want to catch up with your favorite newspaper when you're out and about but don't want to have to buy the paper copy. If this sounds like you, then we recommend the New York Times Editor's Choice. It's free for the time being and comes with all the normal sections that form the NYT, as well as lots of articles, photos and videos making it the next best thing to the real thing. It's also really clear and easy to ready on the iPad.

Twitter is one of the most popular social networking sites out there and it's increasingly used for communicating and keeping up with friends and contacts. If you're one of the people who use it a lot, then you'll love the Tweetdeck app for iPad. It has a similar display to the column-based desktop version and you can choose between the 3 column horizontal version or the 2 column vertical display that lets you view tweets from your friends with the same features as the site itself.

Lastly, if you're a food lover and enjoy cooking then you'll love Epicurious. This app allows you to access recipes on your iPad whenever you want and has had over 3.5 million downloads so far, making it massively popular. There are lots of categories to choose from, including 'cool cocktails', 'decadent desserts' and 'weeknight dinners'. The database of recipes is great and, not only that, but the app is completely free, too, making it even more desirable than it already was.
