Best Techniques For Learning Japanese

By John Conner Roberts

Learning Japanese usually means learning a new alphabet, a new reading style, a new writing style and a new speaking style. There is more involved in learning Japanese than studying some vocabulary! But you shouldn't feel that it's something that's impossible either. Of course you can learn this language. It is a lot simpler if you use some proven techniques in your course of study. Let's look at some useful tips that will help you with learning Japanese.

Watch Anime! By doing this, you can relax and have fun while your mind picks up some Japanese. These movies and shows known as Anime are a widespread form of animation made in Japan. This form of entertainment is now available all over the English-speaking world, either dubbed or in Japanese with subtitles in English. To find Anime, just go to your local video store on search on the internet. Click on the original language option, and listen carefully while following along with the subtitles. This is a fantastic way to learn vocabulary and to pick up on how words are strung together. Learning Japanese by watching Anime is a fun yet effective way to study the language! If you watch Anime you will start to develop your own preferences; some good ones to look for are Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop or TriGun.

There is another way that does not involve any travel to immerse yourself in Japanese; for a month or so, watch only Japanese programs and films; don't choose the option for subtitles, as you don't want to give yourself this help. This is a good way to learn many new words and phrases. Start off with uncomplicated material. The most commonly used words should be your main focus when starting out; handle the more advanced stuff later. Each language in the world has several words that represent the same idea or object. Many words people don't use in everyday day language or sound strange when used in a conversation so your job is to use a small few of the most common words that gets your thoughts across. When you start to recognize when it is appropriate to use one word over another in a given situation is the time that you can start to build a more complicated vocabulary.

One trick you can use to speed up your learning process is to use any Japanese recordings or downloads at times when you are not focusing on learning. Of course, you should listen to these programs as a study drill as well. There is also something to be said for learning subconsciously. Let your vocabulary lessons play in the background as you drive to work, do chores around the house or even as you shop. This is a very easy way to learn, as you don't have to do any conscious work, but it can really help. Believe it or not, you do remember things whether you are trying to or not! There is also a theory that you can even learn while you are sleeping, so you could try learning Japanese in your sleep!

Try to keep the sets from mixing, especially in the beginning, or you could end up confused and frustrated! If you want to learn a language, you should try anything that might possibly help. What you have to do is create your own personalized learning program. Just remember: you can learn Japanese. Be patient and take small steps, and you will make progress, until one day you will be as proficient as a Japanese native speaker!
